TRADE:
From East Riding, to Lincolnshire, to East Anglia:
8 units of Land = 8,000 Coin
Tax rate of 15% (East Anglia)
8,000 - 1,200 = 6,800 (Profit)
From Lincolnshire to East Anglia
6 units of Land = 6,000 Coin
Tax Rate of 15% (East Anglia)
6,000 - 900 = 5,100 (Profit)
East Riding (Lord Owain ap Derfel) -
A profit (assumed) of 6,800 coins was made this turn. We are recruiting a unit of Knights. Hopefully through raiding caravans we can quickly buy a unit of Men-at-Arms too.
MILITARY ORDERS: In the event of an attack, of which it could only be by Lord Faustus from North Riding, raise a single peasant levy (free for defense) and fill the manor up with food. I can't send a Men-at-Arms unit to defend it right now, due to the fact that I shouldn't defend what I can't hold. Lincolnshire currently takes priority. Once the Men-at-Arms are recruited from East Riding, it shouldn't be a problem.
*At the end of these orders is a note to build 1 unit of Men-at-Arms in East Riding if our raiding of caravans goes well. Just letting you know that it is at the end of the Caravan raiding, but affects our vassal orders.
SEND MONEY TO ERIC
Send 200 Coins to Lord Goodwin in Lancashire. Travel from Lincolnshire, through Yorkshire, and into Lancashire to get there. Its part of our "debt payment". Keeping it minimal. Player to player diplomacy for the win.
SEND GRANDSON TO SPARKS
My grandson, Cadarn ap Uther (age 10), second youngest son to my heir Uther ap Derfel, is to be escorted with his small group of bodyguards through from Lincolnshire, into East Riding, through Yorkshire, and into Lancashire. There they will possibly see the caravans of House Hispanus from Cheshire being raided by House Goodwin. Or, if they do not, continue into Cheshire where they will see the armies of Lord Liangas besieging Cheshire's Roman Fort. That being the case, they will turn back and return to Lincolnshire. This is a diplomatic move since we owe House Magnus money, and he wanted my grandson as a ward. However, obviously, due to the conflict with the Saxons, and the conflict in both Lancashire and Cheshire, its simply not safe to bring my grandson there, especially since House Magnus isn't offering an escort. Turn around and bring him back to Lincolnshire.
DIPLOMAT TO YORKSHIRE
Gisella Linnuis (1/5/3), wife of Owain ap Derfel, who is lord of East Riding, will be the family member going to Yorkshire to meet with the Father Abbot at the monastery there. The Father Abbot is a Hispanus, thus de-facto making him, supposedly, a vassal of the Hispanus minor lady in Cheshire, overseen by the Octavian regent. Even though I recognize they fall under the domain of House Hispanus, and the Abbot is a relation, facts need to be brought to the Abbot's attention, so Gisella's message, utilizing her high diplomacy, is this:
Beyond this, Lord Derfel will mix Diplomacy with Intrigue in the next, far more important part of the mission. It is not necessarily an Intrigue mission, but certainly includes diplomacy due to the possibility of scheming and the necessity of the Scottish King to know that we are loyal to Imperator Steapa III, but disagree on policies with Attia. He will innocently talk to the Scottish King on the disagreements the King has had with Attia Acaddon, as I refuse to acknowledge her as a Thetford. I like to think of Stiorra has grand-daughter of Leofric, somehow, anyway. We want to know how many policies the King disagrees with her on, whether it be diplomacy with the Scots, economic policies and isolation of other lords, or he personally doesn't feel she has put the military in a great place. We also understand that Justocus is the grandson of Attia so his opinion is obviously biased in favor of her, but we want to know just how close the Scottish King is to him, and since Justocus' father is the Scottish King's vassal, just how much power he has over him. Since we are just talking here, about the state of both the Scottish and British realm, nothing fishy is going on. He should also state quite clearly how he is entirely loyal to Imperator Steapa III, which should be obvious.
(NOTE* Intrigue here should have a +2 since we are "Trusted" by Attia, and this is entirely against Attia. Just saying.)
Here comes the Intrigue part. Lord Derfel is going to subtly suggest to the Scottish King that if Attia's old age, or an unforseeable tragedy took place, or through completele ineptitude, or even if her age makes her "incapable" of rule due to her mind slipping, House Linnius would be the perfect substitution to replace Attia as Regent of East Anglia. This has multiple obvious benefits, first and foremost with a Lord being Regent who is entirely loyal to Steapa III, as proven by our actions last year and being the first house to pledge loyalty to Steapa III, the suggested marriages between House Linnius and the King's family in Scotland will require mutually beneficial agreements are necessary, and that House Linnius is obviously the most influential lord near East Anglia, not only bordering it but having brought three other families together to fight against the Saxons, something that even Attia does not seem capable of doing. The fact House Linnuis has the capability of bringing an entirity of four houses together and Attia cannot maintain that proves that for the security of Imperator Steapa III's realm, Lord Linnuis is by far the best choice. Secondly, mention that Lord Linnuis is currently working towards bringing the downfall of Lord Caractacus through a mutually beneficial relationship between House Linnuis and House Goodwin. In a minimal of three years time, we intend to destroy House Caractacus, take Westmorland in the name of House Goodwin, who will then provide a generous tax benefit of 10% to all Scottish lords, and 15% to all Celtic lords, allowing Lord and Lady Brittanicus the ability to trade at an averaged discount every year compared to the 40% they've been having to do before. We also will open the city to trade with the Scottish kingdom, allowing their nearest, most-southern lords to trade there, if they so wish. We will make no mention what-so-ever of removing Attia from power, just looking at a favorable response.
"Father Abbot,
Though married into the Linnuis family, my bloodline is that of Acaddon, a direct relation of Attia Thetford, Lord Brittanicus, and Lady Britannia. The Acaddons have for generations been protectors of the lands of Yorkshire, and although I recognize the time of our direct ruling over the province is past, it has never been far from my thoughts, or the thoughts of my Lord Derfel of House Linnuis, that the lands of Yorkshire need protecting. Especially in these dangerous times of conflict and war, it is important to recognize several facts. One of these is that the Saxons are currently engaged in a war against the true inhabitants of Britannia, of which we call to the Christian faith for our strength. In the sacking of London, the capturing of the clergy and the desecration of our holy relics, they have made it clear they hold little respect for Church lands, and will take advantage of the precarious situation they are in. I bring this up not to scare you, but make you aware that the Saxons, if they could, would take advantage of you and be more than willing to take not only our holiest of relics, the Cloak of St. Albans from you, but the monastery as well. That is not acceptable, for in these times the people of Britannia will need a unifying power to keep them strong and hold against the pressure of the Saxons. Also of note is that my Lord Linnuis, whom is one of only three houses to stand up to the Saxons, and the largest contributor of men, whom also is a fervent supporter and vassal of our Imperator Steapa III. I need not remind you, of course, that it was Imperator Steapa III's father whom gifted the lands of Yorkshire to the Church and therefore your monastery. Through the Saxon's current conflict against Imperator Steapa III, and my Lord's support of him, the lands of Lincolnshire are potentially at risk of invasion by the Saxons. At the same time, through the Saxon's sacking of London and their nefarious actions against the Holy Church, Yorkshire is vulnerable should ever Lincolnshire fall. I bring this up not to distress you, nor to give you the thought that Linnuis is concerned over its position, for in fact we are very optimistic. But, the fact cannot be ignored. At the current state of Britannia, Yorkshire's fate is directly linked to that of Lincolnshire's, for if should fall Lincolnshire, the Saxon knights will overwhelm Yorkshire. House Linnuis and the Imperator are the final stand against Saxons entering Yorkshire, and it is something my Lord Derfel is comitted to never happening. We also bring dire warnings of an impending attack on Cheshire by a large army under the banner of House Liangan Wales. They intend to besiege the fort, and the good Lady Hispanus seems to be imprisoned and dominated by her "Regent", Octavion. This being the case, the ability of House Hispanus to defend you is nonexistant, and it seems soon that the lands of House Hispanus will belong to another. Due to these threats of Yorkshire's and Yorkshire's fate being directly linked to Lincolnshire, it makes sense to all of House Linnius that our lands work together, and doing so can easily avoid a take-over of Hispanus lands and their claims through family ties to Yorkshire. Avoiding war in Yorkshire is our sincere wish, and we can stop both Octavion and House Liangan from bringing war to your doorstep through our mere political influence. Secondly, House Goodwin is, we believe, currently preparing to attack Yorkshire and claim its lands as your own. Albeit an ally of ours against the Saxons, no ally will remain that way so long as they are willing to make war on the Church and the Church's holy clergy. We can defend your lands with our armies, as we are doing so right now against the Saxons. The best solution we can think of is peacefully transfering control of Yorkshire's lands to that of House Linnius, allowing Lord Linnius to appoint a lord over the land, and to ensure the continued protection of the Monastery in our realm.Understanding, Father Abbot, that this asks you to forsake your ties to House Hispanus, we ask you to consider. House Linnius is active in the realm's politics and a defender against the aggression of the Saxons, he borders your lands, and is a strong Christian. He is aware of the threat that Lord Caractacus in Westmorland is, he is aware that Lord Goodwin threatens your lands, and is aware that Lady Hispanus posesses not the inner strength to hold back the hordes of Saxon knights, nor the activity in the realm to utilize politics to push away the aggression of fellow British lords. It is in our best interest to combine arms. And while we are sure these reasons are enough to catch your attention and have you seriously thinking the situation over, Lord Derfel understands that what the Church offers, particularly the lands within your demense, is invaluable. He is intent on ensuring the ransoming of at least one holy relic from the Saxons, whether or not peace is made between them, and placing it in the monastery to sit beside the true Cloak of St. Albans, for Lord Derfel recognizes the one in Cornwall to be false. Lord Derfel promises to make Yorkshire the religious centre of all his vassals, and is intent in an eventual rise of rank to, as quickly as financially possible, build further Church buildings in the province to increase the influence of our Lord Jesus Christ. He intents to utilize your monks to spread the influence of God and his son, converting the Saxon lands, particularly of Lower Midlands, back into Christianity. We hope you are of a like mind as us, in that you recognize Yorkshire is better protected and will prosper under the vassalage of Lord Derfel, as compared to Hispanus or any other bordering lord. This is a time when House Magnus considers vassalizing itself to House Varosean, Cornwall finds itself blocked in by House Varosean, London has fallen, the Archbishop is missing, and further war and conflict is on the rise. It is of the utmost importance to recognize the best interest of the Church lies in House Linnius' future."

The purpose of the message is simple and with it I want Gisela to further persuade the Abbot with her diplomacy skill to peacefully allow House Linnuis to take the lands of Yorkshire into his hands, allowing him to defend them. The threat of House Goodwin raiding caravans is too great to ignore now, Cheshire being besieged is too great to ignore right now, and the threat of the Saxons and the desecration they have done is too great to ignore in the long-term.
EAST ANGLIA DIPLOMACY / TOURNAMENT
Entering the tournament are three people. Do your best and what not, in the event that Lord Derfel ends up fighting either one in the Finale, I want him to resign and take second place. It'll seem charitable and I don't want everyone knowing that my daughters are better fighters than my main character, as it will keep them wondering. In a perfect world, Ceinwyn would go up against and defeat any Scottish competitors. It's part of the diplomacy.
1) Lord Derfel of Lindum, of House Linnuis (5/3/4)
2) Lady Stiorra of House Linnuis, Thetford relation (6/2/5)
3) Lady Ceinwyn ap Derfel (5/1/2)
Then willingly swear loyalty and vassalage to Imperator Steapa III. Not to Attia. To Steapa III. It is absolutely necessary that in any vows of loyalty, even if it means an obvious change in word that cannot go unnoticed, we swear loyalty to Imperator Steapa III of Britannia, only.
Bring Tewdric ap Owain to court with Lord Derfel, Lady Stiorra, and Lady Ceinwyn. He is only eight years old, and if found to be an appropriate playmate of the Imperator, we offer for him to stay as further proof that our continued loyalty lies with the Imperator. It will be a guaranteed way to maintain and cement good diplomatic relations, for one day he will inherit his father's lands in East Riding.

INTRIGUE / DIPLOMACY IN REGARDS TO SCOTTISH KING
Lord Derfel will conduct the diplomacy (5/3/4) since he has an "average" rating. Nothing particularly impressive or depressing. He can't make it better or worse, really, so its all what we offer. No sense writing a speech, and I'm sure, Mike, that you probably didn't even read the entirety of that one. Here's what Lord Derfel offers the Scottish King, with diplomacy taking place at the coronation, tournament, and celebration in East Anglia:
1) We offer Ceinwyn ap Derfel who will be taking place in the tournament as a wife to the Scottish Prince, who has no wife or heir. This assures the succession of the Scottish King's line.
2) Lord Derfel's wife is currently held captive by the Saxons. The fact is she may very well not come back alive. If in the event of an unfortunate accident taking place in regards to his wife, Lord Derfel would very much be willing to offer himself as a worthy candidate to take the King's daughter as his wife.

FEAST IN LINCOLNSHIRE:
Lord Britannicus Acaddon and Marshal Judocus Acaddon are coming to Lincolnshire for a feast, as agreed upon here. Lord Magnus is also coming to Lincolnshire to partake in the feast. Mike, I also discussed with you on AIM that they were close enough provinces that it wouldn't clash with the tournament and coronation. The greatest purpose of this get together for me is to increase relations between Lord Acaddon and Marshal Acaddon. There's no complicated diplomatic thing I wish to talk to them about. In fact, I was hoping to this for two purposes: first to garner good relations, and two, to conduct intelligence on pure gossip of the realm nobody else has heard of, mostly pertaining to their opinions of other major lords in the realm. Utilizing this, I want to then bring up the possibility of a joint strike in the future on Westmorland, for House Linnuis and House Goodwin have been planning a future strike to take the trade city and eliminate the horrendous tax on vassals loyal to House Thetford, Celts, and Scots, due to Caractacus' racist and prejudice nature on anything not Roman. Any help in the future, after further preparation, that we could get to assure victory over the trade city would ensure a second trade city in use for House Thetford, as it is the intention of us to make Lord Goodwin the lord over the city. Lord Britannicus is useful in this discussion because he is very close to Westmorland and suffers from his horrible tax, and would thus benefit from joining in this strike. The Marshal is useful in this discussion for the purpose of gaining approval from Attia Thetford for this strike, and as the leader of the Regent's forces, has direct influence over her reaction to her vassal's military operations. I would like some juicy tidbits and opinions of other lords from them, though.
MILITARY ACTION:
COMMANDER: Stiorra of House Thetford (1st Lincolnshire Men-at-Arms, 1st Lincolnshire Knights)
SUBCOMMANDER: Uther ap Derfel (2nd Lincolnshire Men-at-Arms)
We have two units of Men-at-Arms and one unit of Knights, and two out of three of these units are the most experienced in the game. The important thing here is to support these units by maintaining a strong enough army that they're never wiped out and only gain more experience. Anyway, the quickest way to do that now is raiding, which I have no qualms against. Two notable people are sending caravans through Lincolnshire this turn. The first one to reach our lands will be Farm's caravan, of House Liangan in Wales. Its a pity he's decided to go for Cheshire this turn, because me and Eric are going to sweep in and take it next.
House Liangan is sending 8 units of land to East Anglia. We are raising both units of Men-at-Arms and Knights in order to ensure we receive every chance of destroying any unit escorting these units of land, and since there seems to be no way of guaranteeing secrecy in our involvement, we are going to go balls to the wall in an effort to ensure that we at least get what we damned well want. We will wait on the border of Lincolnshire / Yorkshire and wait for the caravan. If they are escorted by four or more units (two knights and two men at arms, for example, or two men at arms, knights, and archers) we do not want to fight them. I don't see this happening, as I believe House Liangan is supposedly involved in the taking of Cheshire, which I hope holds into a siege. That'd be nice. Anyway, at the border of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, allow the caravan entrance into our lands. Once it has fully passed, with a unit of Men-at-Arms at the front of the caravan, a unit of Men-at-Arms at the back of the caravan, and the Knights marching parallel to the caravan to the middle, take control of the caravan, kill the leaders, and announce that we are taking it to East Anglia to trade, and that so long as the remaining people in the caravan do as we tell them by maintaining movement of the caravan to East Anglia, we will let them live and go free wherever they wish after the money is received from East Anglia. Since House Liangan has yet to announce its loyalty to House Thetford, I'm sure Attia won't mind over much. After the initial take over of the caravan, ONLY ONE unit of Men-at-Arms (led by Uther) escorts it to East Anglia, where it will then wait for the arrival of the other caravan
EXPECTED PROFIT OF LIANGAN RAID:
8 land = 8,000 coins
Tax rate of 15%
Profit of 6,800
Next is Freya Abaddon's caravan coming from Carmarthen. This is coming from Upper Midlands. Potentially this is most likely to be raided before it gets here. After we take over the Liangan caravan, the two units not escorting the Liangan caravan to East Anglia (which will be one unit of men-at-arms and one unit of Knights) will position themselves at the Upper Midlands / Lincolnshire border, and proceed to do the same thing with the smaller Abaddon caravan coming through our lands. Take it over, state that so long as things proceed as planned, everyone lives, and then move to East Anglia. After securing control, one unit of Men-at-Arms (led by Stiorra) escorts this caravan to East Anglia, where after the retrieval of coin it will meet up with the other unit of Men-at-Arms there, and then march home guarding the profits. The knights will cease action this turn after the caravans have been raided and rest.
EXPECTED PROFIT OF ABADDON RAID:
6 land = 6,000 coins
Tax rate or 15%
Profit of 5,100
*NOTE: It was put in my budget that with the expected income of these raids, a unit of Men-at-Arms will be raised in East Riding. East Riding is a vassal, so this money is not directly Owain's, but we will gift him the 5,000 so long as he builds a unit of Men-at-Arms. This gives him a decent army of 250 Men-at-Arms and 50 Knights at his disposal in one turn.
